And in Vicksburg . . .

A bona fide US Army Corps of Engineers steamboat, M/V Mississippi IV

In Vicksburg, we toured the M/V (Motor Vessel) Mississippi IV, a steamboat commissioned in 1961 which was used jointly by the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Mississippi River Commission to tour up and down the river, serving as a working tugboat for the Corps and as an ambassador to citizens of the Lower Mississippi Valley (the area from Illinois to Louisiana), holding MRC public meetings up and down the river. The boat was in use from 1961–1993.

In addition to the public meeting space, we got to see the engine rooms, staterooms where guests stayed overnight, and the living quarters for the crew. We particularly enjoyed seeing the galley and dining areas — along with the oh-so-convincing artfully created fake food.

Irresistible, eh?
